Hans A. Kessler's software experience began after his military service in the Swiss Airforce when he joined an international team responsible for the commission of the Swiss leg of the radar defense chain through Europe. Within a few years of immigrating to the United States in 1976, Hans began to explore the possibilities that personal computers provided to businesses. He founded Custom Systems Company, Inc. in 1983 and developed a billing application for an Akron trucking company. As his company's reputation began to spread, Hans was asked to develop the very first PC applications used by The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
